His noise is getting quieter, but I can still see it there still-
See how he feels the skin of my hand against his, see how he wants to take it and press it against his mouth, how he wants to breathe in the smell of me and how beautiful I look to him, how strong after all that illness, and how he wants to just lightly touch my neck, just there, and how he wants to take me in his arms and-
“Oh, God,” he says, looking away suddenly. “Viola, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-“
But I just put my hand to the back of his neck-
And he says, “Viola-?”
And I pull myself towards him-
And I kiss him.
And it feels like, finally.

If Todd can manage his dead end job under Davy, I can survive my dead end job under my ass-holish boss.
Sorry for neglecting this blog, I’ve been up north in my Provence without cell service and internet. But hopefully I’ll get internet by Friday and love you all some more.
I love you all so much, my beautiful followers.
The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness out in 2013
Big new book announcement!
Oh, yeah, that’s what I said. This was supposed to come out next week, so I was going to have some fun building this up and teasing you all, but the internet is a leaky, leaky place so it was instead announced today, a week early.
Never mind, it’s true! The fantastic folks at Canongate Books have just bought The Crane Wife, my first adult novel in nine years, to be published spring 2013.
I’m pleased as punch. (“pleased as Punch”? Is it about Punch and Judy, thay saying? We don’t have Punch & Judy in America, and being pleased as fruit punch makes no sense, so…) Anyway, very, very excited indeed, and don’t worry. This definitely does NOT mean that I’m not going to write any more teen fiction. Not even a little bit. Lots more to come on that front, stay tuned. I TOLD you there were big announcements on the way…
And from The Bookseller:
Bickmore [editorial director] described it as “an enchanting tale of how loneliness can be transformed by the disruptive and redemptive power of love.”
I didn’t like The Crash of Hennington (Patrick Ness’s last adult book) nearly as much as Chaos Walking, but it was definitely still interesting and fresh (rhino pov!) and in his unique style. I still want to read Topics About Which I Know Nothing and am very excited for a new novel from him, after all the growth and experience gained from Chaos Walking.
